Introduction to Qigong: A 6 week series

with Leigh Cole

Mondays at 4pm, on the following Mondays:

September 28, October 5, October 19, October 26, November 9, November 16.

Location: Yoga Dome

Cost: $125 for the 6-class series, or $25 per class for drop-in

Tai Chi and Qigong move energy through the body to generate flow and build balance and strength. Qigong is known as the health and wellness component of Tai Chi. In the Dong family approach to teaching, Qigong is taught as part of Tai Chi instruction, as the foundational way to experience the benefits and power of Tai Chi before learning or memorizing an entire Tai Chi form.
The course will introduce Qigong 1 and 2 in the Dong style and the fundamentals of Tai Chi. Each class will include warm-up, practice of basic Tai Chi forms, and practice of Qigong. Over the six class series, we will cover all the movements of Qigong 1 and 2, with each class building on the prior class. Each class will offer simple Qigong and Tai Chi forms to practice at home, to build strength and develop familiarity with the practice between classes.
Qigong and Tai Chi are practiced standing, in comfortable clothes. Practicing outside is ideal. Participants may wear comfortable clothing of their choice, with layers for variable temperature in the Dome. A t-shirt, light sweatshirt, yoga pants or other comfortable pants, and sneakers or soft shoes are recommended.

The Path Before You: Your Ascendant

Operating on both casual and profound levels, the Ascendant represents the mask you inadvertently wear and the underlying motive that instructs your movement through the world. It summarizes components of your physical constitution with implications for your wellness. And also, because it pinpoints the singular moment of your birth, it sets your overall life curriculum, serving as the anchor point for your astrological blueprint. Come and learn what this powerful point in your chart shows you about your overall life path.

Class 2: Sunday November 15, 2026, 3-5pm

Your Guiding Light: The Sun

Most folks are familiar with their Sun sign, the zodiac sign in which the Sun appeared to sit during the season of your birth. Just like the Sun in the solar system, your Sun is the central governing force in your birth chart and can be used to understand your personality – the core essence that you shine out – and your purpose – the direction in which to radiate your light. Most of the personal work associated with the Sun revolves around clearing out obstacles to your natural luminescence. Affirm what you already know and take it deeper.

Class 3: Sunday December 13, 2026, 3-5pm

Your Instinct and Intuition: Your Moon

One of the most intriguing and workable parts of the astrology chart, the Moon encompasses your emotional profile, including the chief emotional instinct that drives you, the keys to healing your younger selves, and access to your all-important intuition. It steers you toward the inner sources of self-acceptance, the practical tools that support your emotional wellness, and the healing work of being in relationship with the self. Through the Moon, we gain insight into our mothers, our moods, and our mysteries.

Class 4 Sunday January 10, 2027, 3-5pm

Your Perceptions and Principles: Your Mercury and Venus

Once you’ve learned your three primary signatures of your Ascendant, Sun, and Moon, the next step is to grasp the meaning of the two planets that spin between us and the Sun. Mercury, the winged messenger, refers to our perceptions and how we think and communicate. Venus, goddess of connection, invites us to know the principles that underlie our decisions. Together, they help us understand the way we relate to others. Furthermore, their retrograde periods provide opportunities for rest, reflection, and rejuvenation, a point we will visit. We will discuss both your natal placement and using the retrogrades.
